How Saffron Helped My Mum Reduce Dependency and Lift Her Mood

Saffron and the Brain - A Natural Path to Lifting Mood and Reducing Dependency

For thousands of years, saffron has been prized not just as a spice, but as a natural medicine. Recent research is confirming what traditional wisdom has long suggested: saffron can have powerful effects on the brain

I’ve seen this first-hand with my mum. She has lived with chronic pain for years, relying heavily on cocodamol — a medication that can be highly addictive and difficult to step away from. After just a week of adding saffron, her dependency reduced significantly for her, and her mood lifted noticeably. She still needs cocodamol occasionally, but she feels more positive, clearer, and more in control

So how does it work? Studies show saffron influences the dopamine and serotonin pathways in the brain. These neurotransmitters regulate mood, motivation, pain perception, and even movement. By enhancing their activity, saffron may reduce distress, lift mood, and support people in moving away from reliance on pain medication

Of course, saffron is not a magic cure. This is simply my mum’s personal experience, and everyone’s biology is different. It should always be considered as part of a broader brain-health plan. That’s why I focus so much on dopamine optimisation in my protocols, including my work on Parkinson’s, cognitive decline, and the Thrive by 85 programme
